Home Energy Ratings Australia wants people to be able to understand our service, request an assessment and contact us regardless of ability, technology or access method.

Our target for this website is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.2 Level AA. We do not claim that the website conforms to that standard unless the completed website has passed appropriate automated and manual testing.

We are working to provide:

• clear headings, page structure and link text;
• keyboard access to navigation, forms, controls and dialogs;
• visible keyboard focus and a logical focus order;
• readable text, sufficient colour contrast and support for browser zoom;
• labels, instructions and useful error messages for form fields;
• error summaries that help people find and correct a problem;
• text alternatives for meaningful images and no unnecessary text embedded in images;
• captions or transcripts for meaningful audio or video if either is introduced;
• layouts that remain usable across common screen sizes and orientations;
• reduced or removable motion where movement is not essential;
• no interaction that relies only on colour, hover, dragging or precise pointer control;
• page titles, landmarks and status messages that work with assistive technology; and
• email and phone alternatives when a website interaction is not accessible or suitable.

Accessibility is part of the content, design, development, testing and ongoing maintenance process. Automated scores alone are not treated as proof of accessibility.

You can request an assessment through the website form, by email or by phone.

If you cannot use a form or need help providing the required information, contact us. We can discuss an accessible alternative and record the information with you.

Do not send card details or unnecessary sensitive information by email or through a website free-text field.

Some assessment documents, prescribed forms or certificates may use formats controlled by an assessor, software provider or government scheme.

If a document we provide is difficult for you to access, tell us the format or assistance that works for you. We will work with you to provide a reasonable accessible alternative or another way to complete the task. We will not change the meaning or validity of an official certificate.

The assessment journey may use third-party services, such as a payment page, assessment software or a data-collection tool. We consider accessibility when selecting and configuring these services, but parts of their interfaces may be outside our direct control.

Using a third-party service does not remove our responsibility to provide an accessible way to use our service. If a third-party step creates an access barrier, contact us so that we can provide assistance or a reasonable alternative.

We aim to acknowledge written accessibility feedback within one business day.

We use accessibility feedback to investigate the barrier, offer a practical alternative where possible and improve the experience. If your report is also a complaint, Home Energy Ratings Australia owns the response and manages it through the complaint process described in our Terms and Conditions.
